  1. HomerPaint Program Features
  2. Here's a menu-by-menu description of the HomerPaint features.

  14. New allows you to create a new HomerPaint screen.  After you select 'New', you will be presented with the following screen.  Enter in the channel name for HomerPaint to log into and transfer paint information.  Tell other individuals running HomerPaint which channel your HomerPaint is logged into and they should do the same.

NOTE:  DO NOT SET HOMERPAINT TO LOG INTO A CHANNEL HOMER IS CURRENTLY LOGGED INTO.  ALTHOUGH YOU WON'T SEE ANYTHING, HOMERPAINT IS SENDING COMMANDS THAT OTHER USERS CAN SEE.  ALSO, HOMER WILL BEGIN TO WORK IMPROPERLY AND YOU WILL BE FORCED TO QUIT HOMER AND RESTART IT TO MAKE THINGS STABLE ONCE AGAIN.

  27. After you join the channel, a blank screen will appear for you to draw on.  The title of the window will reflect the channel that you have set HomerPaint to work with.  In the example below, I have entered in 'paintchannel' as the name of the channel I wish HomerPaint to use.

  36. Open
  37. This lets you open a saved pict file (even a JPEG encoded file if you have QuickTime installed).  If you wish to have a group of people working on a saved file, they must ALL open the pict file and join the same channel with HomerPaint.

  39. For example:  You couldn't open a pict file with HomerPaint, join with HomerPaint and have everyone else who joined after you see the pict you loaded.  You would all have to open the same pict file, then you could edit the same file.

  41. Close
  42. Close will close the HomerPaint window.  It will NOT ask you if you want to save the file.

  44. Save PICT File...
  45. This will save the current HomerPaint window you are working on to a PICT format.  It will also prepare a fine mushroom and cheese quiche if you hold down a few special keys while selecting this.

  52. Edit Menu

  54. This menu selection has been purposely disabled because a young man in a location we must keep anonymous watched a episode of Beavis & Butthead, and because of B&B's urging, they unknowingly used the 'Cut' function to hurt themselves.  This is for your own safety.

  66. Select Foreground Color
  67. By selecting this, you can set your Foreground color with the Apple Color Picker window.  The Foreground color is the color that paints with every tool as well as outlines for tools such as the box, circle, text, paint bucket and starting gradient color.

  69. Select Background Color
  70. By selecting this, you can set your Background color with the Apple Color Picker window.  The Background color is used specifically for the gradient tools.  The gradient tools will make a gradual gradient from the current Foreground color to the current Background color.  The Background color also is used by the Eraser tool.

  72. Select Fill Color
  73. By selecting this, you can set your Fill color with the Apple Color Picker window.  The Fill color is used solely for the color filled when using the filled Box and Circle.

  75. Clear Screen

  78. Pen Size
  79. Pen size sets the width of the lines in equal proportions (as in width and height, i.e. 2x2, 4x4).  The pen size applies to all functions except the spray paint, gradients and the paint brush.

  88. These all affect your text tool.  This stuff isn't too tough.. so, you go hog wild on it.
